About

MMA Life is a blog devoted to living life and training mixed martial arts. It aims to treat mixed martial arts and its composite combat sports – Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, Judo, boxing, kickboxing, and so forth – as an all-consuming hobby which enriches all other aspects of the practitioners’ lives, without buying into the testosterone-addled hype that surrounds the sport at the professional levels. Very simply, we want to find ways to live our lives with our sport, rather than live our lives for our sport.

MMA Life is a one-man show, and it’s run by me, Patrick Miller. I started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the Spring of 2004 and have maintained a healthy supplementary regimen of no-gi grappling, boxing, kickboxing, and a light dose of MMA training. Punching and kicking is fun, but I prefer the gi and the mat to anything else – mostly because getting punched and kicked is less fun. I received my blue belt in the Spring of 2007 from Gabriel Ruediger, and I’ve trained in various BJJ/MMA gyms in Northern California, Southern California, and Japan – most of which are linked in the sidebar. When I’m not training, I’m writing, so feel free to contact me, especially if you’re looking for a writer-for-hire. Thanks for stopping by!

    Hi,

I caught your post about the Bull Terrier shorts over at Sherdog. As far as I know, I actually train with the bloke that owns the place over here in Hamamatsu. (I say ‘as far as’ because my Japanese is balls and my Portuguese is even worse and that’s all they speak at the Academy!) BT sponsor a few of the guys. I agree with you about the shorts looking pretty gash/quality etc, but the Gi’s are actually pretty sweet…

Anyway, just thought I’d say hello to a fellow gaijin! Might catch you at the comp in Hama next week!

    Good luck with training

    Mark
